Adblock on Lock

by Counterintuity @ Counterintuity

Once upon a time, an advertiser’s main concern was whether audiences would respond to an ad. Today, that concern has shifted to whether audiences will even see an ad. In an ever-growing trend, savvy surfers are skipping the promotions and heading straight to the content by using (free) ad blocking software. And this has caused no small problem for advertisers. The world’s most popular ad blocking application, Adblock Plus, has been downloaded over 500 million times. The number of active daily users has gone up from 21 million in 2010 to 181 million in 2015. Ad blocking allegedly cost the ad industry $22 billion in 2015 alone, and consulting firm Ovum predicts that by 2020 it’ll have accounted for another $35 billion in losses. Even as marketing professionals, we get it. A lot of online ads are just plain annoying – and as long as that’s true, ad blocking isn’t going anywhere. Our recommendation? Rise above the standard fare and show consumers that not all ads are bad. Opt out of auto-play. There’s nothing worse than visiting a site only to be bombarded by a strange voice shouting about floor cleaner. Rather than engage in a frantic search for the source of interruption, many will leave the site altogether; and that’s no good for anyone. Keep it simple. If people don’t want to see ads, they certainly don’t want to work for ads. Make sure your content is clear, engaging and accessible. Avoid gimmicky graphics. No one’s going to click on that flashing “50% OFF” ad (at least, not on purpose). You might think the theatrics will help you stand out from the crowd, and they will – but not in a good way! A classy, well-designed image has a better shot at catching eyes. What would make you stop using an ad blocker?...

Client Shout-Out: Golden State Gymnastics Website

by Counterintuity @ Counterintuity

When Golden State Gymnastics asked us for a site refresh that was inviting, playful, and fun, we bent over backwards (get it?) to deliver. Our Mission: Making it easy to register for Golden State’s awesome gymnastics classes, sign up for a stellar birthday party or kick it at one of their cool camps. Our Method: We knew the Call To Action needed center stage, so we included two dedicated “Register Now” buttons: one up top and one in the right-hand navigation bar. New photos! We sent one of our favorite photographers to the gym for some shots of the newly updated facility. Restructuring content is a project, but we put the time in so it takes no time at all for visitors to find important details (like class and team programs). Adding full-screen images and making the site mobile friendly brought it into 2017. Last but not least, we increased both mobile and desktop speed by a whopping 40 percent [insert zoom sound effect here]. Final score? We’re thinking a perfect 10. Congrats on the new site, guys!

Our status as Google Partner allows us to more simply A/B/C test ad headlines and A/B/C/D/E/F test our clients’ ads.

by Counterintuity @ Counterintuity

EXCLUSIVE UPDATE TO GOOGLE PPC As a Google Partner, we often get access to features and opportunities within the AdWords PPC module that others do not. This very morning, we were pleasantly surprised to see a new feature in our Client Manager that allows for the automatic creation of six ad variations for each AdGroup, each of the six a different permutation of three headlines that we create: This function will allow us to more easily A/B/C test three different ad headlines, and actually A/B/C/D/E/F test those three headlines in each of their six combinations with six different ads. Once those six ads run for a few weeks we can compare the text variations to interaction and conversion rates, allowing us to emphasize the best performing ads and pause the weakest ones. Google has automated parts of this process allowing their robust algorithms to do some of this work on its own – but no advertising campaign should be left to the whims of Google, unmanaged. Our subjective analysis, which includes a deeper understanding and knowledge of client goals, will be the deciding factor on all significant adjustments to the campaign. We run AdWords campaigns 365 days a year. If you need assistance in the world of PPC or just want your campaign to be optimized utilizing the latest features that Google has to offer – we’re here to help.

How to Cultivate a Cohesive Customer Experience (AKA Winning Like Walgreens)

by Counterintuity @ Counterintuity

Here’s the thing about most modern customers: If they don’t like the way you’re doing business, they’ll take their business elsewhere. Quickly. They’ve got high expectations and a whole lot of options – so it’s vital to offer the best possible experience both online and in-store. While reading this Think With Google interview with Deepika Pandey, the Chief Digital Marketing Officer of Walgreens Boots Alliance, we realized she’s got this down – and three key points really struck a chord with us. A customer is a customer. According to Business Insider, U.S. consumers are expected to spend more than $630 billion online in 2020. All that money funneling into online purchases means you’re going to lose in-store business. It’s just a fact. The trick is not to treat that as a problem to avoid, but as an opportunity to be seized. Like Pandey says, “Customers who shop in-store and on mobile are 6X more valuable to us than those who shop only in a store.” One of the reasons we at Counterintuity focus on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and keyword optimization when creating ads for clients is that 93 percent of online experiences start with a search engine – and we want to ensure your customers see you first, even if they’re clicking a link rather than shaking your hand. Anticipate needs (and wants, while you’re at it). Only 7 percent of online shoppers believe that brands do a good job of customizing their online experience – but you can be the exception. Walgreens makes it a goal to assist every single customer in the most efficient and effective way possible, and so can you. But rather than simply meeting the customer’s expectations, prompt them to consider needs they haven’t yet anticipated themselves. One great way to do that? Lead-capture...

It’s Safe to Say: Casoro’s New Site is Stunning

by Counterintuity @ Counterintuity

Casoro Jewelry Safes has been a leader in luxury safes for years – and we’re pleased to announce that their new website reflects that more than ever! Our goal was to establish that Casoro’s high-end jewelry safes are the ideal addition to an opulent lifestyle, and our first priority with this project was showcasing their superior product. We accomplished this by adding a photo gallery exhibiting their wide variety of custom safe options, complete with specifications and dimensions. Each product page includes a Design-A-Safe form that allows visitors to craft their perfect product, from the exterior color to the number of drawers, and to establish contact with Casoro by requesting a quote. We maintained a visual focus with elegant slider images on every page, and included a section dedicated to their White Glove Service, which a recent study affirmed was a leading reason customers chose Casoro. Need a redesign? Give us a shout. Your site is safe with us!

Pleasing Panda: Your Guide to Google’s Search Algorithm

by Counterintuity @ Counterintuity

Back in 2016, we wrote a blog about Penguin, Google’s link evaluator. Now, we’d like to focus on Panda – and aside from their namesakes’ retweet-worthy levels of cuteness, these are two creatures of a different color. Panda’s been monitoring your content and modifying your search ranking accordingly since 2011. Google’s increasingly frequent updates to the algorithm – six between January and May 2017, according to GSQi – mean it’s only getting smarter and more selective. So, what can you do to please Panda? Take a good, hard look at your website. Is it fully functional? Filled with quality content? Easy to use? Tone it down. Panda can smell aggressive advertising from a mile away, and doesn’t like seeing users pestered by persistence. Beef it up. When it comes to content, thin is not in; low quality content can result in a serious penalty. Focus on providing your users with relevant, original content. Be a query master. Create content to match user queries, and don’t get hung up on length. Resorting to spammy text to hit 300 words is not Panda-approved – what’s important is that your final answer is effective. Service that SEO. While technical SEO doesn’t have a direct impact on Panda, any issues can negatively affect UX – so ensure that tech glitches or performance issues are promptly sorted. Remember to keep your site tight at all times (with our help, if needed). Just ’cause you can’t see Panda, doesn’t mean it’s not there!
