6 Practical Ways to Gain More Confidence In Your Work

“I have written 11 books but each time I think 'Uh-oh, they're going to find out now’… I've run a game on everybody, and they're going to find me out." You might be surprised to learn, like I was, that Maya Angelou - a woman who was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, won five Grammys, and received a ton of other awards during her lifetime - struggled with “imposter syndrome.” Her fear of not being good enough caused her to question her abilities and fear that others would learn that she wasn’t as great or as capable as they originally thought. I wonder if you feel the same way with your business. You feel the pressure to keep up appearances. You doubt your abilities. You compare yourself to others who seem to do things better. And you fear that even though things seem to be going well at the moment, people will eventually find out that you aren’t quite so great as you appear to be on Instagram. The struggle with imposter syndrome can be crippling. I know from personal experience. But over the past few years, I’ve discovered 6 truths that have helped me gain more confidence in my work. I hope you find them helpful, too.

15 Clever Ways to Use Instagram Stories to Promote Your Business
by Lauren Hooker @ Blog
Tue Sep 12 03:00:00 PDT 2017
I don't know about you, but when Instagram stories launched several months ago, I was both excited and overwhelmed. I was excited at the idea of a new way to connect with my followers. But overwhelmed by the though of having to create more content on top of regular Instagram posts, Facebook, Twitter, blog posts, and all the other content that I create week after week for Elle & Company. So I kind of sat on it and put it off until I could put my own unique spin on it, until I could figure out how I could really use Instagram stories to benefit my business, and how I could use Instagram stories realistically. I didn't want to start off with a bang, with all these bright ideas and then not have the time to actually follow through with them all. I sat on it for a while and then started coming up with a list of clever content ideas. So today I'm going to share 15 clever content ideas to use Instgaram stories to promote your business.

An Inside Look at What We're Currently Working On
by Lauren Hooker @ Blog
Mon Jun 12 07:34:20 PDT 2017
This isn’t a normal Elle & Company blog post. In a normal Elle & Company blog post, I share strategies and write about topics after I’ve already had time to experiment and figure out what works. But after reading your replies to my annual survey a month or two ago, I saw that you want to see things as they’re happening. You requested more behind-the-scenes. Your wish is my command. I have to admit, though - this is a little out of my comfort zone. Because if something doesn’t work out the way I hope it will, my failure will be public knowledge. All of you will know about it. But that’s a more honest look at running a business, isn’t it? Trial and error, falling down once, and getting up twice. So here’s the inside scoop about what my team and I are focusing on this quarter, along with why and how we plan to accomplish it.

How to Balance a Full-Time Job and a Part-Time Freelance Business
by Lauren Hooker @ Blog
Mon Jul 31 09:23:53 PDT 2017
Starting a “side-hustle” has grown in popularity over the past few years, and it’s easy to understand why. Maintaining a full-time job while pursuing a passion project on the side offers the best of both worlds: a steady paycheck and benefits along with the opportunity to make a little extra money doing something you love. And while there’s a lot to gain when starting a side-hustle, there’s also a lot of sacrifice. Here at Elle & Company, we know a thing or two about balancing a full-time job and a “side hustle.” I worked a few different 9-5 jobs while I worked to get my business up and running, and both of my assistants currently work full-time jobs while helping me with Elle & Company part-time. All three of us understand the time and energy that goes into balancing a full-time job and a part-time passion project. So we rounded up some practical ways that we’ve been able to keep our heads above water and maintain our sanity in the process.

And while those are crucial components, there are a lot of steps that need to happen before the client process begins in order for things to run smoothly. How you handle inquiries, meetings, contracts, and invoices can make or break the entire process; it sets a precedent. If I Were Starting My Business from Scratch, This Would Be My Game Plan
by Lauren Hooker @ Blog
Mon Jul 03 08:22:02 PDT 2017
So you want to start a business. You have a ton of motivation and excitement at first, but all of a sudden reality sets in. There are so many tasks involved, the majority of which you’ve never tackled before. You’re way out of your comfort zone, overwhelmed by all the things that need to get done. Where do you even begin? When you’re first starting out, it can be difficult to see the forest through the trees. When I first started Elle & Company, I found myself piecing together all that I thought needed to get done (forgetting a bunch of steps along the way). I longed for a step-by-step list of what to conquer and when. Now, three and a half years into running my online business, I’ve had time to reflect on what worked and what I could’ve done differently to save time (and stress). So I’m paying it forward. I’ve created a step-by-step list of what to focus on when you’re trying to get your business off the ground. If I were to go back and start Elle & Company from scratch, here’s what my game plan would look like.

Call me crazy, but I’ve always looked forward to the “back to school” season at the end of August. While it usually means that summer’s coming to a close, it also means there’s a fresh new season on the horizon. A “second New Year,” of sorts. Because I don’t know about you, but summer is usually a lot crazier than I expect it to be. A couple vacations, a couple bouts of car trouble, and a big move has kicked me out of my normal work week routine, and I’m longing for routine and consistency. Surely I’m not the only one! In an effort to get back on track, I rounded up my favorite tips and strategies for scheduling your workday, staying on task, and setting better boundaries to maintain a realistic work/life balance. If you’re hoping for a fresh start to your business this fall, this post is for you.

10 Tips to Tighten Your Copy
by Lauren Hooker @ Blog
Thu Aug 10 03:00:00 PDT 2017
Whether you’ve been in business for 2 years or 2 minutes, you know that being an entrepreneur requires a slew of skills. You have to be a salesperson, a marketer, an accountant, a project manager, a designer, a social media expert, a researcher, and a copywriter - all while being an expert in your particular field. And you’re probably willingly (yet hesitantly) diving into all of those roles because you have a product, service, or idea that you enjoy and believe in. But in order to get clients and customers to pay attention to you and purchase your great product or service, you have to be able to communicate about it. You have to write about it in a way that’s genuine and persuasive. Emails, blog posts, headlines, bios, sales pages, social media updates - being an entrepreneur means you’re constantly having to write new copy for your brand and your business. But here’s the thing: Most of us aren’t trained copywriters. We haven’t had a copywriting pro sit down with us one-on-one and teach us how to write in a way that’s concise, compelling, and personable. And if you’re anything like me, you might also have some serious resistance to promoting yourself and selling your products. But copywriting doesn’t have to be quite so painstaking and overwhelming. These 10 simple copywriting tricks will help you clearly communicate about your business in a way that resonates with people and encourages them to take action.

SEO Inc. Now 21-for-21 in Removing Google Penalties for Clients
CARLSBAD, CA – Dec. 16, 2015 – SEO Inc. has successfully removed their 21st Google penalty from their client base. This most recent removal makes it their fastest to date.
SEO Inc.’s client, an online retailer earning thousands of dollars in revenue each year, received a manual penalty from Google earlier this fall. SEO Inc.’s team tackled the issue right away, and within weeks had discovered the problematic links in the client’s backlink profile. After removing the links and submitting a Reconsideration Request to Google, the manual action was removed.
“We’re now 21 for 21,” says Garry Grant, CEO and founder of SEO Inc. “Our penalty removal service has proven 100 percent effective in quickly removing manual actions and completely weeding a site of toxic links. Our team has it down to a science.”
Since introducing the service in August 2014, SEO Inc. has fine-tuned their link detox and penalty removal process. “We’ve had new clients come to us because we could get them out of their Google penalty,” says Grant. “We’ve continued to deliver on that every single time.”
As 2015 comes to a close, SEO Inc. is proving they are experts in the field of SEO services and internet marketing. With a new Google Penguin update on its way early next year, SEO Inc. urges everyone to clean up their site before their rankings suffer.
“Our diligence toward meeting our clients’ needs, as well as our adherence to Google’s Webmaster Guidelines makes us a standout SEO company,” says Grant. “2015 has been phenomenal, and now we’re looking forward to what the new year has in store for us!”

I recently conducted my annual reader survey. These were some of the responses I received to the question “What would you like to learn more about from Elle & Company?” I was surprised to learn that many of you want to learn about my blogging process and how I am able to consistently blog. Many of you recognize the importance of blogging, but identified it as a struggle (which I totally empathize with). Blogging isn’t quite so difficult if you have a clear-cut process. So today I’m sharing a behind-the-scenes look at my blogging process.

"If you're not ranking on page 1 of Google, you might as well not rank," said an SEO Analyst at SEO Inc. This is where a properly timed and executed SEO campaign comes into play."
The SEO Analyst continues, "Recent studies have shown a clear correlation between high rankings and high Click-Through Rate (CTR)."
- The top organic search position in Google receives between 35%-53% of clicks from search users
- The 2nd and 3rd positions receive 15% and 9% of clicks from search users, respectively.*

"If businesses want to see positive impacts of an SEO campaign in time for the holiday shopping season, it's imperative to start in September, not in November or December," said an SEO Analyst. The Complete Guide to Launching a Successful Blog
by Lauren Hooker @ Blog
Thu Jul 06 13:32:49 PDT 2017
People are always shocked to learn the reason Elle & Company grew exponentially in my first year of business. It wasn’t through Instagram (although social media is a fantastic marketing tool). It wasn’t through networking with the right people (although word of mouth and recommendations from trusted sources is helpful). And it definitely wasn’t through some sort of big break (although that would have definitely been nice). It was through blogging.

Feeling burnt out? 3 ways to bring the spark back to your business
by Lauren Hooker @ Blog
Mon May 22 08:50:52 PDT 2017
Confession: I used to be extremely critical of burnout. I would come across posts on the topic when I first started Elle & Company and thought the writers were being a tad bit overdramatic. If you’re doing what you love, can you really ever become burnt out? It was at a time in my business where I had a ton of motivation. I had a clear goal that I was working toward - creating a full-time business off of my love of design - and I was willing to work 10+ hours a day to get there. The momentum continued to increase as I saw some success in my business. Clients started to come rolling in, my blog was growing exponentially, and I started to offer more products and services. I hit my stride… ...and then recently, I hit a wall. The early mornings, late nights, and no vacations finally caught up with me. That was a month or two ago. Since then I’ve realized that burnout is a real thing. And after some reflection and time off, I’ve discovered 3 simple things that can help you conquer burnout and bring some spark back to your business.

The Story Behind Why I Started Elle & Company
by Lauren Hooker @ Blog
Mon May 01 06:22:10 PDT 2017
“How did you get your business off the ground?” It’s a question I get asked pretty regularly by creatives who are in the beginning stages of starting their business. They want to know how I grew my audience, how I was able to book clients, and how I made the leap to full-time. I have to smile as I attempt to answer it, because the irony of it all is that I never set out to start a business. As a matter of fact, I swore up and down that I would never, ever own a business, because I grew up seeing firsthand all the things a business required. (For those of you who’ve heard this story, you haven’t heard the whole story. Keep reading.)

11 Crafty Ways to Repurpose Old Content
by Lauren Hooker @ Blog

Content creation is at the heart of Elle & Company. Between blog posts, weekly newsletters, Ellechats, social media posts, and Library additions, I spend a lot of time pumping out new content each week. But here’s the thing about new content: it has a shelf life. Newsletters get buried in inboxes. Blog posts get buried in archives. Social media posts quickly fade away from the feeds of your followers. Webinars end. The content you create (along with the time and energy you put into them) quickly gets buried under your newer content. But don’t be fooled; you didn’t labor in vain! Enter, the art of repurposing content.

SAN DIEGO, June 1st 2015 – SEO Inc. will be attending the Internet Retailer Conference and Exhibition (IRCE) in Chicago on June 3 and 4, where they will be showcasing new services and sharing customer case studies in exclusive private consultations.
SEO Inc.’s CEO Garry Grant, as well as Vice President of Sales Arnaud Lemaire, will be at the event offering eCommerce clients solutions for increasing the online visibility of their websites. As an eCommerce specialist with experience in all eCommerce platforms and protocols, including Drupal, Magento, and Shopify, SEO Inc. is eager to showcase their most recent successes in getting their clients ranked on Google.
“Since our inception in 1997, we have successfully kept current on all the most popular eCommerce platforms,” says Garry Grant, CEO of SEO Inc. “Our success in helping our clients rank highly is second to none, and we’re confident that we can show you something you’ve never seen before to get you bigger, better business.”
SEO Inc. will be conducting private, one-on-one consultations on June 3 and 4. They will be showing eCommerce businesses how to increase profitability and improve all aspects of their website’s SEO and Paid Search campaigns.
“ECommerce is one of the leading ways that online businesses are making a profit, but without search engine visibility your website may as well not exist,” Grant says. “You need to take advantage of all the avenues for revenue and customer reach the Internet has to offer, and to get that you need modern-day search engine optimization.”

“You may be able to get a hold of us during show hours,” Grant says, “but your best chance is to get in touch with us before IRCE begins. It’s the only way to secure your meeting with us to start improving your Google rankings!”
Grant continues: “We can’t guarantee we’ll have time for you once the show begins, so please contact us as soon as possible.”
IRCE will take place on June 2-5, 2015.

SEO Inc. Announces New Link Detoxification and Backlink Enhancement to Their Lineup of SEO Services
by admin @ SEO Inc.
Mon Aug 11 09:17:41 PDT 2014
Carlsbad, CA (8/7/2014)- SEO Inc., a full-service Internet Marketing Optimization Company, announces new Link Detoxification and Backlink Enhancement packages to augment their popular PPC and SEO services. These new backlink cleanup offerings aim to assist businesses of all sizes achieve higher rankings, a better trust and citation flow, and increased organic traffic.
SEO Inc. began offering Backlink Detoxification services in 2013, upon seeing the rise of manual penalties given to sites for having many “bad links” pointing at them. “As Google makes changes to their algorithms, it’s our job as SEO professionals to understand them and help businesses adapt,” says Garry Grant, CEO of SEO Inc. “Of the websites that have contacted us regarding manual penalties, we have a 100% success rate in identifying harmful links and taking necessary steps to removing Google Penalties. These websites have completely recovered and are ranking again.”
To augment SEO Inc.’s trusted Backlink Detoxification services (for Google Penalties), the company now offers “Backlink Enhancement,” a service that goes further to clean up a site’s backlink profile making it more authoritative and trustworthy than before.
“Our team looks at your site’s link profile, analyzes each link pointing at your domain, and one by one, determines its authority and relevancy. We leave in only the strongest and most relevant links,” says Grant. “This helps a site’s health and, therefore, rankings.”
SEO Inc. urges site owners to regularly check Google Webmaster Tools for negative incoming links and manual penalties. “If you rank high for your main keywords one day and don’t rank at all the next, or see a substantial drop in traffic, there is typically a problem. It’s time to call the professionals at SEO Inc,” suggests Grant.
